Sometimes the most memorable marketing pieces are the ones that invite people to interact rather than simply observe. That’s exactly what we set out to achieve with this bespoke beer mat created for Everards Brewery.

The brief was to create a premium, eye-catching beer mat that celebrated Everards iconic Tiger brand while offering something completely unexpected. The result was a dual-purpose design that combined traditional point-of-sale branding with an engaging paper engineering concept.

One side of the beer mat proudly featured the instantly recognisable Everards Tiger branding, maintaining a bold and impactful presence on the bar. On the reverse, however, customers discovered something entirely different a cleverly designed pop-out, build-your-own tiger. Carefully engineered pieces could be removed from the coaster and assembled into a freestanding miniature tiger, transforming an everyday beer mat into a fun keepsake.

Creating this concept presented significant technical challenges. The intricate die-cut design required exceptional precision, with every tab, slot and connection needing to fit perfectly while remaining strong enough to survive production, transport and use in busy pubs. Even the smallest variation in the cutting profile could affect how easily the tiger assembled or how securely the finished model held together.

To achieve the required level of accuracy, we produced multiple prototype dies and carried out extensive testing throughout the development process. Each iteration refined the tolerances of the interlocking joints, ensuring the components released cleanly from the beer mat while providing the ideal balance between a snug fit and easy assembly. This rigorous testing allowed us to fine-tune every detail until the finished tiger assembled effortlessly without compromising the integrity of the coaster itself.

The final product demonstrated how innovative structural design and precision die-cutting can elevate a simple promotional item into an engaging brand experience. Rather than being discarded after a drink, the beer mat encouraged interaction, extended customer engagement and gave people a memorable reminder of the Everards Tiger brand long after they had left the pub.

This project showcases the value of combining creative thinking, expert paper engineering and meticulous prototyping to produce promotional materials that not only capture attention but also create lasting brand connections.
